The hemp industry is under threat — and we need your voice now more than ever.
This week, the U.S. Senate is expected to vote on an appropriations package that includes language that could effectively ban nearly all consumable hemp products across the country. If passed, this bill would undo years of progress, impacting farmers, consumers, and small business owners who have worked hard to build a lawful, regulated hemp market.
At 502 Hemp, and across Kentucky, we’ve followed the rules. We’ve built our businesses with integrity, committed to consumer safety, and upheld state and federal guidelines. So why are lawmakers trying to take that away?
🏛️ A Message to Senator McConnell – From Kentucky, With Respect
Dee Dee Taylor, President of the Kentucky Hemp Association and owner of 502 Hemp, recently shared an open letter to Senator Mitch McConnell — a key architect of the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills that revived the American hemp industry.
Here’s a brief excerpt:
“Your leadership in the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills gave retailers like us hope and opportunity. But your recent call to re-criminalize popular hemp products undermines that very promise — and more importantly, undermines Kentucky’s right to govern its own affairs.”
Kentucky has already passed one of the most comprehensive hemp regulations in the country. In 2023, our state legislature worked hand-in-hand with law enforcement, health experts, and the hemp industry to create strong rules:
✔️ Sales restricted to adults 21+
✔️ Child-resistant packaging
✔️ Independent lab testing
✔️ Licensing and inspections for retailers
This wasn’t a loophole. It was leadership.
What the Federal Ban Could Do
- Wipe out thousands of jobs and small businesses
- Cut off access to safe, lab-tested products for people who rely on them — including veterans, cancer patients, and individuals with epilepsy or PTSD
- Undermine state laws that are already working
- Drive the market underground, where consumer safety is not guaranteed

Hemp is more than a product — it’s a livelihood, a source of relief, and a symbol of responsible reform. We urge lawmakers to build on Kentucky’s success, not destroy it.
