Why does 502 Hemp CBD oils come in colored glass or amber bottles?
CBD, when in direct light, tends to breakdown in effectiveness. Meaning that it can lose its potency being in direct light. It is always better to store your CBD product away from direct sunlight. It is also more effective to buy your CBD in either a completely covered clear bottle (label that is colored and shrink wrapped), boxed or in colored bottles. The colored bottles help keep the light out and keep the efficiency of the oil. This is why 502 Hemp’s brand and all the brands at the stores are in colored bottles, boxes or shrink wrapped.
What is hemp extract? Is it different from hemp seed oil or hemp oil?
Hemp extract is where they take either the flower or the entire plant and extract all of the cannabinoids from it. This is what is commonly known as CBD oil. Hemp seed oil is cold pressed from the seed and doesn’t contain the medicinal value like hemp extract does. It is great for salads and is high in amino acids. Many times people label their product as hemp oil which confuses people into thinking that it is hemp extract. Typically it is the hemp seed oil. If there isn’t a milligram associated with the hemp oil, then be cautious of the product.
What is the difference between full spectrum, broad spectrum and THC Free CBD oil?
Full spectrum hemp extract contains all the cannabinoids of the plant. There are approximately 113 cannabinoids in the hemp plant. When a product contains all of its natural compounds, it seems to work more efficiently. Most of the products on the market are full spectrum. The only down side is when people are drug tested. Since full spectrum contains all the cannabinoids, it contains THC or tetrahydrocannabinol as well. This compound produces the “high” if consumed in large doses. All of our products are federally compliant and contain less than 0.3% of THC. However, THC can build up in your system over time and while it still won’t cause you to be or get high, you could possibly fail a drug test. If that is concern, stop in and let our staff at 502 Hemp Wellness Center help you choose the best product for your needs.
Broad spectrum hemp extract contains all of the cannabinoids of the hemp plant, except THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. So you get all the benefits of the oil without the worry of failing a drug test.
THC Free CBD oil only contains CBD or cannabidiol. It doesn’t contain any other compound and is made with an Isolate. This is still a beneficial product, but, per anecdotal evidence, it doesn’t seem to help as much with pain.
What is a certificate of analysis or COA?
A certificate of analysis or COA is proof that the product has been tested. Most reputable places will third party test their hemp/extract for pesticides, fungus, heavy metals, and numerous other contaminates. They will also have their product tested for the cannabinol profile either third party or by their lab if they have the testing capabilities. It requires a PhD chemist in order to test the quality of the product. The COA’s should have the Doctor’s signature and lis exactly what was tested for. All of 502 Hemp’s products are third party tested and our manufacture has a PhD chemist in their lab to analyze the cannabinoids profile. All of our COA’s are on our website and also available for viewing in our Moser Road location. You can rest assure that all of our products are of the highest quality and everything our manufacture produces is made in Kentucky with Kentucky hemp.
What are the most widely used extraction methods? What is the safest?
There are different ways to extract and our manufacture uses supercritical CO2 extraction method. It is a process that involves pumping highly pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) into a chamber or holding tank filled with the hemp plant. When there is enough pressure the CO2 will become supercritical and will exhibit some of the same characteristics of liquid CO2 while remaining in a gaseous state. This extraction method draws out more of the oils and other substance of the plant and avoids any thermal degradation which can happen in other extraction methods. 502 Hemp’s manufacture uses this extraction process.
Other companies may use a hydrocarbon extraction method which is a gas, like butane, hexane, or methane, that is heated up. This process strips the plant of its cannabinoids and terpenes (scents) to produce the oil. Gases have never been recognized as safe for human consumption. If not performed correctly, they could leave harmful residuals.
Another extraction uses ethanol. Ethanol has a higher boiling point then butane and tends to leave more of the plant material in the process, which, requires more work to make it cleaner and more appetizing.
There are further stages to each extraction process, but bottom line, CO2 is safer for both humans and the environment. CO2 doesn’t involve solvents or possibly leave residuals if the final purification phase isn’t performed correctly or lab quality gas isn’t used.
